First and foremost, I would like to apologise because I have not been writing any reviews. I know that it is a shame the fact that I let all the good stories go to waste but I honestly could not update this site without suffocating myself what with all the other workload I have been receiving. Yikes. But here I am again, hoping to be active in writing once again if Time is willing to be my friend in months to come. Coming back from a hiatus, I am going to review on 2013 rookie group, LADIES' CODE's So Wonderful as it has been requested earlier this month. LADIES' CODE consists of 5 members namely Ashley (leader), Sojung, RiSe, EunB and Zunny (maknae) and they have code names for themselves which I found is quite interesting.
For someone who barely knows this group, I think I am in a good position in leading us, who are of the same level, to a same conclusion afterwards. Or so I think. Moving on, the first thing I focused on as the music video started playing was the saxophone piece in the background. The way the video opens made it seem like it was going to be another typical girl group video adopting the supposedly sexy concept but my opinion quickly changed as the actor get busy with these girls. He seems to be grooming them, dolling them up for some sort of show made unclear throughout the music video. He does what every other girl would do to themselves to look good for any occasion which would involve fishing for a good impression. It has two implications to me, either he controls the relationship in every way possible or he is a factor behind the girls being in that state. The waterworks by one of the girls support the latter much better. An instance where he leaves the girls after he was done "playing" with them clearly indicates that these girls were left and that the relationship was a failure.
Moving on to the song, the title "So Wonderful" is quite contradictory to the lyrics and the message that they are trying to deliver to their audience. Instead, the term is talking about their underlying sentiment which is how much they have treasured and possibly, still treasuring this oh "so wonderful" man which may or may not be real, for all we know. I am sorry but I am not a big fan of these girls vocally since I believe that they are lacking in that sense, although I am not saying that they are incapable of producing even better tracks in the future. As usual with Kpop songs, we tend to pick up the English lines because those are probably the only words you understand when you first listen to them, it is safe to say the "so so so so wonderful" part is quite catchy but that it all there is to it. The rest of the song is pretty distant in terms of trying to send the message across, it was as if it was half-heartedly made. Again, I apologise.
However, I do see the potential for these girls to go big but something tells me that they will need to work a lot harder. Why did I say so? Their vibe is similar to that of Wondergirl's and of course that is a compliment. Maybe it's those microphone stands and the whole retro look they were donning, I am not sure myself. Their concept, though, could go much stronger if they do wish to stand out in the Kpop industry these days - without flashing a lot of skin. Their dance routines need to be eye-catching as well. Else than that, I see nothing wrong with supporting this girl group. I actually am looking forward to what they can come up with in the nearest future. Good luck, girls!
