SONG REVIEW 03
Album Title: 최고다 이순신 (You're The Best Lee Soon Shin) OST Part 4
Artists: Changmin (2AM) & Dahee (GLAM)
Release date: July 1st, 2013
Genre: Ballad / Soundtrack
I have always been a sucker for soundtracks and I have to admit this particular one caught my attention as soon as it was released for soloist IU's latest drama "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin," her being the lead actress. IU stars yet again in a heart-warming drama alongside her co-stars Jo Jung Suk, Yoo In Na, Son Tae Young, Lee Mi Sook and many others. This drama tells a story of a devastated family who has lost a member but who soon will learn the true meaning of love and happiness, self-discovery and reconciliation.
The title of the song translates into "I See Only You" or an alternative title "I Can't Live Without You" as stated in the album. The song opens with GLAM Dahee's amazing raspy vocals as she pulls you into the sorrowful lyrics despite the melody being so beautiful. Netizens commented "wow she sounds like just like IU" "I thought this was IU's duet with Changmin" and those were indeed compliments seeing as how big of a fandom IU has in South Korea alone. I have always known how capable Dahee is as a singer but her duet with fellow labelmate Changmin managed to make me more of a fan!
The song tells a story of how one can be in love and yet still have the need to hide his or her feelings despite being just an inch close to the other person. For whatever reasons that clearly mattered, both parties are hiding their feelings and bitterly they still stand apart witnessing how quick the feelings grow inevitably as each day passes. Who will make the first move?
"We might grow farther apart so I'm standing a step away from you but I'm falling in love with you."
"I don't know how to tell you I love you so I'll endlessly look at you."
Changmin as usual, showcases his voice well and if I have to admit, it was almost too well. Dahee's voice is a little overwhelmed by his and only for that part alone I was a bit disappointed. Other than that, the song is a winner and I hope it will be nominated at the end of the year, at least then their effort would not be wasted and their potential would be more recognised.
