Before I continue, I would like to first apologise to you all for not posting for months. I am aware of how much attention this space is getting. I get notifications of the view count every time I posted a new review entry. For that alone, I am very grateful especially to you my silent readers. Unfortunately, things got extremely hectic in the real world and I couldn't sit somewhere long enough to relax and write again like I usually would. I sincerely apologise and hopefully from here onwards, I'll be able to spend more time on writing. I've missed this and hopefully you did too. Let's move on.
S.M. Entertainment latest girl group Red Velvet ended their comeback era with their last performance on latest episode of SBS Inkigayo. Their title track "Ice Cream Cake" was taken from their first mini album (EP) of the same name. It is hard to believe that it has been 8 weeks since their promotion started on KBS Music Bank - these girls have been active since then. Many have speculated that this era has got to be one of the best for the girls so far. Why is this so? Let's go through their journey briefly.
Firstly, the sudden addition to the team as announced by S.M. prior to album release. Yeri joins the group as the first (and hopefully final) addition to the team making her the official maknae (youngest) of the group following former youngest member, Joy. Fans grew weary of the addition, thinking that they would not like the group with 5 members as opposed to when they started as the perfect quartet. However, a few weeks into the promotion, fans are already finding it hard to imagine the girls without Yeri. Irene, leader and the oldest in the group, admitted that with the addition of a "very cheerful friend," the group never felt so lively and speculated further how it was probably what they needed. Later, member Seulgi revealed that together with Irene and Yeri, they were buddies during their trainee days. Their close proximity on camera was not made-up after all.
With this comeback, the girls managed to get nominated for #1 place and winning the battle for the first time ever in music shows against renowned artists in the industry, marking their official entry into the arena as a strong contender despite having only debuted in August 2014. They fished out altogether 6 trophies, making them the legitimate super rookie we have all been waiting for. Apart from that, they have also been attending regular radio broadcasts and shows for further exposure. The girls have also attended their very first fan-signing event as well as successfully arranging an Ice Cream Truck event for fans and fansite masters alike where they had the chance to interact openly with their loyal audience.
Although the Ice Cream Cake era is now ending, we still have the privilege to watch MCs Irene and Yeri in action on KBS Music Bank and MBC Music Core respectively. They will be hosting the show alongside co-MCs every single week, make sure you don't miss it!
Now that is what I call a blessing within a comeback. I hope to see more of these girls in the nearest future with more great comebacks. S.M. did a great job with them this time round and I hope the treatment stays the same - or even better. Good luck girls!
