T-ARA returns for the first time since their debut as the original 6 members line-up featuring Boram, Soyeon, Eunjung, Q-ri, Hyomin and maknae Jiyeon. The lead track "Number 9" is taken from their fifth mini album (although labelled their eight) entitled "Again" and it was released on October 10, 2013. They had released another lead track "I Know The Feeling" alongside "Number 9" offering mixed genres as they return into the scene. Both music videos for the tracks were released at the same time although the latter received more attention. As much as I think this is a safe song from them, I have to admit that it is still quite catchy and I have been listening to it for four days now!
The music video, unlike most of their recent ones (up to this day) is a lot simpler and to be honest I was actually expecting so much more from them because I know they can do so much better. This is not to say that I am truly disappointed in how the video had turned out because all the girls look so amazingly beautiful. I was hoping though, that they would come up with another interesting short drama because frankly it had become somewhat like a trademark for them and to have them throw it away is a little saddening. I believe this comeback is somehow rushed seeing as how simple the dance number is now compared to all of their other routines. Despite having a sub-par music video, their song managed to make up for it.
There has been a lot of speculation going around regarding the song where mostly they are asking who exactly is "Number 9"? In the direct translation of the song, the girls are singing to a vague entity (of which we can assume it is a man) who they had called their "Number 9." A ridiculous assumption has stated that it could be their 9th man - to which I had disagreed strongly because let us be logical here - that sounded promiscuous, doesn't it? Apparently this man has caused so much pain to these girls causing them to react to it strongly and this is shown in their video (especially Jiyeon's behaviour). The part which has caught the attention of many is the amount of lines given to Eunjung, who is now the main vocalist. Initially I was expecting to see Soyeon, former leader, hitting the high notes as usual (before Ahreum came) but I was surprise to see the change. Q-ri is now the leader and her presence is much more convincing this time round especially with that red hair of hers - she looks extra gorgeous. Boram also has more screen-time now and it makes me happy to see that the spotlight is now on her (she has lines too!). Lastly but definitely not the least, vocalist and rapper Hyomin is looking as sexy as ever! That was a great comeback nonetheless! Congratulations, girls!
